Description:
We started out by building our first prototype which did not work at all on the track, after our first mistake we changed our design completely. What came next was a ton of trial and error. After about seven different car designs, we finally came back to our first design with four wheels, two axles, and one rubber band. After trying almost every rubber band, finally we came to the last one that worked perfectly almost every time. After tweeking the amount of times the rubber band revolved around the axle, It was so rewarding to get the car to move five meters, we were jumping out of our seats screaming.
Concepts:
Mechanical advantage: Measure of the force amplification achieved by using a tool.
Friction: The force resisting the relative motion of a solid surface.
Mass: The mass is how much an object weighs.
Acceleration: The rate at which the velocity of an object changes with time.
Velocity: Velocity isms peed with a given direction.
Reflection:
I feel like this project was really fun, but I was building the whole time, so I didn't get to do any calculations. I also felt that I used my time wisely, by talking while working. We had a lot of trouble figuring out what our idea was going to be. Also, we didn't stop to think how our first seven prototypes were going to work, finally stopped on our eighth prototype to brainstorm how it would turnout.
Our building skills really thrived for this project. We took our time constructing different prototypes. We also had very nice graphs in our presentation, thanks to Archer who is very technologically inclined.
