Description:
When we first started the project we were arguing on what to do our physics video on, we were deciding between wrestling, plane racing, and bike jumping. We solved this problem by holding a servey within our class, this allowed the class to choose what we should do so we wouldn't have to argue about it ourselves. After we settled on the bike jump we started getting to work on our script for the video. After we finished the script, we started constructing ideas like how we were going to set up the video. Ideas for setting up the video were pretty easy to come up with, we started by thinking what we would do in the beginning, we came up with the idea of putting in some clips of professionals jumping big dirt jumps, then we used one clip of me jumping my dirt jumps while Poh was talking about physics of my jump, next we had Poh talk about how much I weighed and my gear ratio of my bike. He then realized that none of that information was valuable to the watchers so he cut it out in the video. Finally we finished the entire video, and attended a very nicely put together film festival put on by Mr. Williams. There we watched all of the videos from both classes. At the end of each one, the creators of each film would answer questions that the audience would ask them.
Concepts:
Force: The capacity to do work, or cause physical change. This helped us calculate how much Newtons I exerted on the ground upon landing.
Acceleration: To increase speed or velocity. Acceleration down the ramp gave me the velocity to make it to the jumps.
Velocity: velocity is Distance over time with direction. At the bottom of the ramp I had enough velocity to hit the whole line.
Speed: Speed is distance over time. I needed speed to make it to the second jump in the line.
Impulse: The amount of force something hits the ground with. The force that I hit the ground with after I cleared the jump.
momentum: The force or speed of movement. This is what I needed to jump without casing.
Reflection:
I though this project was really fun. I enjoyed working in my group and coming up with the physics of our sport. I learned that I am not the best with computers. I also learned that I need to work on my communication skills. Some of the things I think our group did really well with were working together and being patient with one another. another peak is that I think our video would have been really good if we had a little more time because our editing skills were great. From this project I learned how to get the maximum height out of my jump.
